The 24th Annual Mercedes-Benz Exhibition at Fashion Island
May 19 and 20, 2001
For the 24th time, the Orange County Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America
invited to the annual Mercedes-Benz Exhibition at Fashion Island in Newport Beach.
This years' event celebrated the 100th anniversary of the marque of Mercedes.
Although Karl Benz built his first Patent-Motorwagen in 1886
and Gottlieb Daimler produced vehicles since 1889 - the name 'Mercedes'
was not used until 1901, when Emil Jellinek initiated the production of
a new line of Daimler Automobiles. Being not only the Austro-Hungarian Consul
at Nice but also the biggest distributor of Daimler automobiles, he
insisted that the new models would be named after his daughter - Mercedes Jellinek.
This 1905 Mercedes featuring a 45 horsepower 4-cylinder engine
is one of the oldest Mercedes in existence.

owners of the automobiles in the exhibition, the annual Fashion Island
Mercedes-Benz Exhibition once more showed to have it's place
among the premier Mercedes-Benz events in the United States. We are looking
