The 2nd year of The Quail - A Motorsports Gathering at Quail Lodge honored the famous Italian road race, the Mille Miglia, and Ferrari as the featured marque. Even though the event is only in it's second year, it could be considered the most luxurious and most enjoyable one during the Monterey week. " It's a garden party with cars " said Derek Bell at last years's inaugural gathering. And it certainly felt like a party again compared to the heavily crowded Concorso Italiano or the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. The number of automobiles on the green, only 125 vehicles ranging from pre-war (WWII) racing to post-war sports cars and vintage motorcycles, and their positioning allowed for a more deserved appreciation of the individual showcased exponents. But this event was not only about vintage automobiles - even though they took the centerstage - it was about fine cuisine as well. Four booths served culinary treats from Italy, France, Germany and Carmel. Wine and beer from these areas complimented the country specific cuisine.
