Located 45 minutes southeast of San Francisco, the Blackhawk Museum is the world's foremost automotive museum which presents the car as a work of art.
This 100,000 square foot multi-level glass and granite architectural masterpiece showcases an ever-changing exhibition of over 120 of the world's greatest automobiles dating from the 1890's.
Designed not only to display automobiles, the museum has generous areas that are devoted to lobby, mezzanine and second floor reception areas so that it can also serve as one of the most sophisticated facilities available for events and corporate functions.
E
ven from a casual walk through the art and automobile galleries it is immediately apparent that the Blackhawk Museum has one of the finest assemblages of early automotive art and custom coachworked motorcars.
Throughout the marbled and mirrored rooms of the museum, patrons pass tangible examples of automotive history. By grouping the cars according to particular automotive eras, or by geographical regions, or even by examples of a certain coachbuilder, the Blackhawk Museum can virtually transport its guests back in time to examine the vehicles in pristine condition.
The museum fulfills a two-fold agenda: to present automobiles to the true aficionados, and also, to instill an empathy and understanding of the craftsmanship, the design and historical significance of the vehicles in enthusiasts and members of families of every age.
By comparing and contrasting the many different styles of automobiles, their individual merits can more readily be seen and deeper appreciation for the construction and design of each vehicle can be experienced.
While these pictures might have captured much of the beauty, up close and in person one can feel the power of their exterior.
From grand touring cars to high-speed racers, brass antiques to state-of-the-art exotics: if the design is inspirational the Blackhawk Museum will exhibit it.
From Franklin to Ferrari, Daimler to Delahaye, Mercer to Mercedes: if it holds a special place in history of the automobile, it will be seen here at some time.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm Pacific Time. Please contact the Museum prior to a visit for their admission cost, special hours and Holiday closures, or public tours.
